System Blue Mallets by Jim Wunderlich

Pro-Mark is proud to have Jim Wunderlich as an endorser and signature artist. His new nine mallet series with System Blue should not be considered for marching alone. Jim’s drum corps roots go back to 1989 when he marched tenors for Suncoast Sound. Today, he is entering his third year as the Front Ensemble Caption Head and arranger for The Concord Blue Devils. The 2007 Blue Devils were awarded the honor of DCI World Champion Drum Corps and the percussion section received the Fred Sanford Award for Best Percussion Performance. In addition, Jim visits Japan several times a year where he is the Front Ensemble Caption Head and arranger for Tokyo’s Soka Renaissance Vanguard. Previous drum corps credits include work with the Seattle Cascades, the Velvet Knights, and Esperanza. Jim is no stranger to the Indoor Percussion activity and Winter Guard International (WGI). He has been the Front Ensemble arranger & caption head for many successful programs, including seven-time WGI Scholastic World medalist Mission Viejo High School; two-time WGI Independent World gold medalist Riverside Community College; and five-time WGI Scholastic A medalist Loara High School. Jim has served on the WGI Percussion Advisory Board since 1996, and is a founding member of the Southern California Percussion Alliance. His current project is working as an arranger/composer for the upcoming theater show entitled “Odyssey”, which will tour Japan from October through December 2008. Jim is joining the creative team of Wayne Downey, Dave Glyde, Scott Chandler & Karl Lowe on this exciting venture!.

The JW1 is the softest of Jim Wunderlich’s signature marimba mallets. It features a rubber-like synthetic core wrapped tightly with durable synthetic yarn on a 15” birch shaft. This mallet is a great choice for a low-range marimba mallet in a graduated set OR for an individual ensemble player.

The JW2 is a medium soft marimba mallet. It features a rubber-like synthetic core wrapped tightly with durable synthetic yarn on a 15” birch shaft. This mallet will have great articulation and response in the low-range of 4.3 octave marimbas or those keyboards with “dry” bars.

The JW3 is the most diverse of Jim Wunderlich’s signature marimba mallets. It features a rubber-like synthetic core wrapped tightly with durable synthetic yarn on a 15” birch shaft. These mallets will cover the marimba from end to end, but have a particularly smooth, rich sound in the middle of the instrument. Buy a set of these and mix and match other mallets in this series to make the perfect graduated set of solo mallets!

The JW4 is another great mid-range mallet in the Jim Wunderlich signature series. It features a rubber-like synthetic core wrapped tightly with durable synthetic yarn on a 15” birch shaft. This mallet speaks well in the mid to high range of the marimba, yet retains the warm, rich sound of this series of mallets.

The Diversity Series As the name implies, the Diversity Series has been designed by The Blue Devils percussion staff to be a diverse line of mallets for indoor or outdoor percussion. The eight mallets in this line were created to cater a variety of players and educators by featuring four graduated vibraphone mallets and four graduated marimba mallets designed for use on synthetic marimbas as well as rosewood! This line is perfect for ensembles seeking clarity, articulation, and a mallet than can hold up to any musical demand while still maintaining a true, fundamental tone from the keyboard.

The DV5R mallet is the softest of Diversity Series vibe mallets. It features a latex-covered, mushroom-shaped rubber core and brass weight wrapped tightly with cord on a 14.5” rattan shaft. This mallet provides a glossy vibe tone with little attack.

The DV6R is a medium soft vibe mallet. It features a mushroom shaped rubber core and brass weight wrapped tightly with cord on a
14.5” rattan shaft. This mallet enables the performer to play a large range of dynamics while retaining a smooth tone.

The DV7R is the most diverse of the Diversity Series vibraphone mallets. It features a mushroom shaped rubber core and brass weight wrapped tightly with cord on a 14.5” rattan shaft. This mallet offers the player enough variety to “belt” out notes when needed and be able to immediately drop down to perform more delicate passages.

The DV8R is another great mallet in the Diversity Series. It features a mushroom shaped rubber core and brass weight wrapped tightly with cord on a 14.5” rattan shaft. A player using these mallets can punch out notes in front of the ensemble while preserving quality and integrity with the instrument.
